From The Roman Crown, Bancroft Roman Villa is about a two-minute walk across the nearby parkland. Follow the local paths to see the stone outline of the house, its walled garden and fishpond. The mausoleum site is on the hill at Blue Bridge.
The north of Loughton Valley Park is around a five-to-ten-minute walk from the pub. Walking times are approximate, so check the route and access before setting out.
Dogs are welcome on the walk; please keep them under control around other visitors. The pub has free on-site parking, so you can stop for breakfast before your walk or come back for a Sunday roast. Park paths can be uneven or muddy after rain.
Make time for Loughton Valley Park
This long green corridor follows Loughton Brook, with open paths, balancing lakes and places of local history and public art. It is an easy way to turn a quick villa visit into a longer walk.
In the northern park, look out for the Concrete Cows, one of Milton Keynes’ best-known landmarks. Artists Liz Leyh and Bill Billings created the much-loved sculpture in 1978. Some paths are hard-surfaced, while routes to the cows include uneven grass and woodchip, which can be slippery or muddy in wet weather.
