Bancroft was one of at least eight known Roman villa estates in the Milton Keynes area. Nearby Roman sites include Stantonbury and Wymbush, while the Roman settlement of Magiovinium lay by the route of Watling Street near Fenny Stratford.
The Roman Crown offers a convenient starting point for a locally rooted day: follow the valley paths, visit the villa remains and return to Bancroft Park for something to eat.
